GEORGE WASHINGTON STATED

Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty teeth.

First Inaugural Address of George Washington...April 30, 1789

The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.

The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Abraham Lincoln said:

"In this age, and in this country, public sentiment is everything. With it, nothing can fail; against it nothing can suceed. Whoever molds public sentiment goes deeper than he who enacts statutes, or pronounces judicial decisions."

James Madison Declared

The adversaries of the Constitution seem to have lost sight of the PEOPLE altogether in their reasonings on this subject; and to have viewed these different establishments not only as mutual rivals and enemies, but as uncontrolled by any common superior in their efforts to usurp the authorities of each other. These gentlemen must be reminded of their error. They must be told that the ULTIMATE AUTHORITY, wherever the derivative may be found, RESIDES IN THE PEOPLE ALONE. An Insignificnt Dot: Thought for the Day

A certain distinguished career politician once declared at a political meeting: "to a career politician, man is nothing more than an insignificant dot in the infinite universe."

"I have often felt that," said Einstein. "But then I realize that the insignificant dot who is man is also the career politician."

Carbon...the reason we ARE

Carbon, a product formed by second generation stars going super nova along with most of the other elements found in the Periodic Table with the exception of hydrogen, nitrogen and lithium, which were present following the presumed "Big Bang" is the basis for life on this Earth. We believe this to be so because carbon has four valence bonds. These valence bonds possess the required energy to make or break a bond just at the correct level for building molecules. These molecules are not only stable but also reactive. These carbon atoms bond to one another and can build long and complex molecules with a myriad of geometrical three dimensional shapes and different sequences of the bonded molecules.

The closest element in the periodic table that might under some circumstances with certain permutations on some planets that could possibly support life-like processes would be silicon; but this according to most scientists would be a stretch of the imagination.

Carbon based molecules are responsible for the things living things need to exist:

  • Proteins
  • Nucleic Acids
  • Carbohydrates
  • Fats

It is remarkable that the very element which is primarily responsible for our biochemical existence is now anathema and must be taxed and removed from our Earth according to some elements of the so-called scientific community; which I believe is junk science. I believe this is simply a way of creating a world type government and supplying it with the needed resources (money) to support its fictional doctrines and control the masses; don't forget what our forefathers said...the power to tax is the power to destroy... and obviously control people.

Just thing of it...some day a global government (not elected but selected by a few elite...Copenhagen Agreement?) will impose on us a personal tariff depending on our mass and subsequently our carbon footprint. Just step up to the scale and get your personal carbon tax bill; better stay skinny.

Trust But Verify

I'm from the government and I'm here to help you. Somehow those words send chills up my spine and make the hair on the back of my neck stand up and make me instinctively reach to my left rear pants pocket to make sure it is buttoned tightly protecting my wallet. Like the late President Ronald Reagan said about the Soviet Union: "trust but verify" I say to you about your elected officials in Washington, D.C. ; that applies from the newest Representative all the way up to the top of the feeding chain. Listen not as much to what they say and promise but what they DO. They have speech writers to put the words together to make them sound righteous and filled with qualities of great leadership ability; but in the final analysis the way they ACT through their vote is what really counts. So listen to their rhetoric but even more important make sure what they say and promise is what they DO by their voting to insure that your vote for them was not wasted on a liar. Liars don't belong in government or for that matter in any position of trust.

Most important...DO NOT FORGET...when it comes to voting time if they betrayed you or if they kept their word. Those that cannot be trusted in little things cannot be trusted in big things or for that matter at all...do NOT FORGET!

Obama Stay Home!

Don't go to Copenhagen on the 9th of December for the international climate negotiations and promise things that you really know we can't deliver and would force us into a deeper recession or depression should we endeavor to try to meet your proposed emission cuts (17% by 2020). This would also be a first step towards a world type government (that is not elected) but is comprised of the supposed "elite" who know what is best for the whole of humanity. This is taking us in a direction that the majority of Americans do not want to go. So listen to your American constituency and not listen the idealogs found in "so called" enlightened segments of the world's population, they are leading us all down the wrong and most destructive path...one not based on true science but on "junk science" and disguising falsehoods as truth.

Looking back at America

Following the American Revolution the thirteen states operated under the Articles of Confederation. Men of the stature of George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams urged that a Constitutional Convention be called to consider a new document for the new country of the United States of America; a Constitution. In May of 1787 the Convention meet in Philadelphia. After much haggling and many compromises the Constitution of the United States was drafted and adopted by the Convention on September 17, 1787. In order for it to become "thee" Constitution of the United States of America it had to be ratified by no less than nine of the thirteen original states.

Ratification was not an easy process and arguments pro and con were waged vigorously. In response to this process the Federalist Papers were written and published under the name of Publius; these papers were the ablest written to try and convince the state of New York to ratify the new Constitution. They appeared in the New York journals between October, 1787 and April, 1788. It was not until 1804 that their true authors were named by Alexander Hamilton just before his duel and his subsequent death at the hands of Aaron Burr. Those authors of the 85 letters were Alexander Hamilton, John Jay and James Madison.

If you really want to get a "feel" for what the Founding Fathers wanted for this new country Google "Constitution of the United States of America" and read it; it is not that long. Also read "The Federalist...1787 - 1788" and you will get a true insiders interpretation of what the Constitution was intended to mean and connote to the people of the United States.

Even in Death...Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will have won!

Terrorists are successful if they can instill fear in a worldwide audience. On 9/11 they were successful; over 3000 innocent people died while the event was televised all over the world. It was certainly, in an evil sense, a spectacular and telegenic event; what more could any other terrorist hope for. Well how about 9/11 - Two (a Second Edition), a gift to Khalid Sheikh Mohammed a self proclaimed architect of 9/11 given to him by President Obama and his Attorney General Eric Holder.

This civilian trial has nothing to do with bringing Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to justice; he has already admitted to doing what he has been charged with and said he is guilty and accepts the death sentence. So what does this civilian trial have to do with except putting the cross hairs of terrorists on New York City again; it has to do with hopefully increasing the political capital of the President and the Democratic Party in view of their rapidly decreasing approval ratings. They need some circuses to feed to the people to give them a "bump" and increase their ratings presumably before the 2010 elections and 2012 Presidential elections. I think this will backfire because of the following reasons:

  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be given one of the greatest platforms to spread his vitriol and hatred and profess jihad to the world.
  • It will allow his defense attorneys to get through the discovery process all sorts of intelligence material that would put the national security of the United States at risk.
  • It would allow his defense attorneys to cross examine witnesses and put them at risk for retaliation and death.
  • But most of all it would be a slap in the face of all those innocent victims in the World Trade Center Towers, their families and all the police, firemen and fire women and first responders who gave their lives in the service of their fellow men and women at Ground Zero that day of infamy.

My advice to you President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder is not to proceed with this circus in New York.

CERN to explore Big Bang

What determines mass? A question that nears the top of the list of questions asked by physicists today. Is mass something that is intrinsic to matter or is it imparted to it by something else. That something else many physicists think might be the elusive Higgs Boson (tagged by some as the "God particle). If it does exist and how it works no one knows. The European Organization for Nuclear Research, also know as CERN will probably begin searching for it at the beginning of 2010 at the Switzerland/French border where the world's largest machine is based.

The Large Hadron Collider was restarted on Friday, November 20th. It took about 15 years to build it and was an international collaboration.

In the 1960s, British physicist Peter Higgs postulated a clustering effect of the Higgs Boson as the mechanism which imparts mass. According to mathematical theoretical considerations and experimental suggestions some think the Higgs boson as the single missing piece of the Standard Model of particle physics. Some think the Higgs boson is a single particle others think it might be several. At any rate it is the single most hot spot in particle physics because it might answer the question of mass or may lead to new discoveries in particle physics. Where it will lead no one is absolutely sure...but it will lead to new and exciting frontiers where no one has gone before.

Iran will implode on itself

The world saw hope for Iran when in June of this year thousands of Iranians poured into the streets of Tehran and protested the "fixed" presidential election.

They stood in solidarity against the mullahs, who let loose their bullying thugs into the crowds to inflict physical harm and harassment on the protesters. The protesters demanded democracy but all they received was imprisonment and torment in the notorious Evin prison.

What did the protesters receive for all their efforts; five were condemned to DEATH; yes DEATH for protesting. The death sentences that were announced this week are hoped to silence the political opposition. They will not silence the opposition to the ruling ayatollah; they will just change the chants of "Death to America," to chants of "Death to the dictator." That is a direct threat to Iran's ruling ayatollah. The movement will not stop, it will grow and grow until the Theocracy crumbles and a more secular and representative government ensues.
It is inevitable.

Diversionary Tactics?

In the February 20, 2009 edition of the Chicago Tribune I read an interesting insight by ANDREW MCCARTHY OF THE NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE.

"President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder, experienced litigators, fully realize that in a civilian court the Qaida quintet can and will demand discovery of mountains of government intelligence...As civilian "defendants," these war criminals will put Bush-era counterterrorism tactics under the brightest public spotlight in American legal history...And because it is unnecessary to have this civilian trial at all, one must conclude that this is what Obama and Holder want to happen.

This will give the hard left its promised feast. Its shock troops, such as the Center for Constitutional Rights, will gather up each new disclosure and add it to the purported war-crimes case they are urging foreign courts to bring against President Bush, his subordinates, and U.S. intelligence agents."

So the reason for the civilian New York trials are for two reasons:
  1. To divert the public attention from the miserable failed foreign policies of President Obama and
  2. To but the blame on President Bush, as they have been doing since Obama's inauguration.

Wake up America and see the writing on the wall.

Questions and Answers on H1N1 Flu Vaccine Safety

Unexpected Adverse Events
The safety of all vaccines licensed in the United States is monitored through a system (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS) that collects and analyzes information from adverse events that occur after vaccination. Healthcare providers, vaccine manufacturers, and the general public can submit information to the system via mail, fax, or dedicated Web site, in English or Spanish.

Monitoring Vaccine Safety
Federal Plans to Monitor Immunization Safety for the Pandemic 2009 H1N1 Influenza Vaccination Program (Federal Immunization Safety Task Force)
Existing vaccine safety monitoring efforts, which have been in place for many years, are being expanded to respond to the 2009 H1N1 influenza. New systems also have been developed to support the vaccine safety monitoring efforts. Details include:

•Large, linked databases from health insurance plans are being matched with state immunization registries to conduct near-real time surveillance of the health outcomes of more than 20 million people following vaccination
•Reporting capacity and staffing has been increased more than 10-fold to collect reports from providers and the public of potential adverse events
•Expanded surveillance systems will enhance detection and follow-up on potential cases of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder
•An independent group of experts is being established to conduct regular, rapid reviews of data from federal safety monitoring systems as it accumulates
The Federal Immunization Safety Task Force was established in 2008 to ensure that all federal efforts relevant to immunization safety are coordinated and integrated and that opportunities to enhance synergies across the federal government in immunization safety are identified. This cross-government task force is led by the Department of Health and Human Services and is jointly chaired by the Assistant Secretary for Health and the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response. The Task Force includes participation from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense. All three Departments are responsible for vaccine research and safety monitoring.

Compromise Healthcare Reform Bill

November 18, 2009 — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) today unveiled a compromise healthcare reform bill that includes the controversial public option — a government-sponsored health plan — that would compete with private plans.

However, the public option is doubly optional — individual states can choose whether to make the government-sponsored plan available to their residents, according to a senior aide to Sen. Reid. The bill also calls for member-owned "co-op" health plans.

The legislation represents a blend of two bills, one crafted by the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, and the other by the Senate Finance Committee. The former committee's bill included the public option; the latter did not, but instead called for "co-op" plans.

The opt-out clause for the public option in the new Senate bill attempts to placate critics who say a government health plan would force private insurers out of business, leading to a federal takeover of healthcare. Public-option supporters contend that a government plan will merely make private insurers more competitive.

The Senate bill would cost $849 billion through 2019, but it would ultimately shave $127 billion off the federal deficit while reducing the number of uninsured by 31 million people, according to a senior Democratic leadership aide.

The bill bears the strong mark of Sen. Reid, who has sought the middle ground for the sake of winning 60 Senate votes. Sixty is the magic number needed to overcome any procedural hurdles mounted by opponents and pass a motion to proceed, which would bring the bill to the Senate floor for debate and a vote. Democrats hold 58 Senate seats; independents, two more.

"I have the responsibility of taking what the left wants and what the right wants and coming up with a package that is a moderate piece of legislation that will allow the American people to have a new structure that will control healthcare in this country," Sen. Reid said earlier this month.

A vote on a motion to proceed could come as early as tomorrow.

If passed, the Senate bill would have to be reconciled to a bill passed earlier this month by the House. The reconciled bill would then come before both chambers for a final vote.

A Sad State of Affairs

According to a poll conducted by Stanford University and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, about 75% of those polled want someone else to pay for their health insurance premiums. Could it be true that 75% of Americans are ignorant enough to truly believe in "a free lunch". The group they have chosen to pay the tab for them are the "rich". That would include anyone that makes more than $500,000 a year but there is also talk of lowering that income level to $250,000 a year. Remember something; what big government can give it can always take away. In years to come the "rich" may become the middle class as more and more funds are needed to fund all the "give away" programs and entitlements promised by your elected Congress. You will become the "rich" by Congressional definition and you will be paying for some one's "free lunch". This is a financially suicidal scenario and will only lead to complete collapse of our economic system and maybe our country itself. Stop the madness of "spend-spend-spend" in Washington. If it continues it will be cheaper to wallpaper your walls with dollar bills than with wallpaper.

President Obama's first duty...a dismal failure?

President Obama's first and foremost duty as President is to safeguard the nation and its citizens. With President Obama's decision to prosecute five co-conspirators with the planning of the terrorist destruction of the World Trade Center Twin Towers in a Manhattan courtroom he is painting another bulls eye on New York City less than a mile from where the World Trade Center stood.

The President and his Attorney General, Eric Holder have some misplaced belief that these "enemy combatants" should be tried in a civilian court according to the rule of law we have established for criminals. Doesn't the President "get it yet"; these are terrorists who are using Islam as a recruiting method to promulgate jihad against anyone not Muslim and even those who are Muslim and do not agree with their brand of Islam. He is importing them into the United States...what a blunder. Just because they don't wear a uniform does not mean they are any less an armed force dedicated to kill us and what we stand for....this is every bit a war but without the visible trappings that we are use to seeing. These terrorists should not be brought (imported) to the United States and should be tried by military tribunals only after the War on Terror has been won; if it takes 10 or 20 years so be it. We did not begin this war they did and the burden of their actions and its consequences fall on them and not on us.

Ellen Goodman......abortion agenda?

Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston did preside over the funeral Mass of Senator Ted Kennedy; it was his duty as a priest of Christ. He did not judge the Senator but as a compassionate Shepard to his flock presumed (hoped) the Senator died in the State of Grace and a friend of Christ. He presided at the Mass of Christian Burial.

As a Cardinal (a Prince of the Church) he had a duty to explain his position on the abortion issue; just like any news writer or politician has and he did. Ellen Goodman criticized him for a breach of etiquette for lobbying at a funeral; what a hypocritical position she placed herself in. I guess in Ms. Goodman's elitist, liberal view the sensitivities of a family trumps the truth of the millions of dismembered developing babies that have been aborted, not for medical reasons, but as a form of birth control....if abortion isn't the greatest sin against Ms. Goodman's sense of "civility" than I don't know what on earth could be.

Ms. Goodman talks about reproductive health care and pro-choice Democrats as though they are benign Constitutionally justified positions; they are not. No where in the Constitution of the United States is there a right to privacy which the Supreme Court that passed into law Roe V. Wade created and used to justify a women's right to abortion on demand. It was a right created by a liberal Supreme Court to justify their position and to satisfy a presumed social and political need at the time.

Reproductive health care and pro-choice are just code words for abortion on demand. I pray that Ms. Goodman will someday see deep within her soul the value of innocent human life and fight to protect it and not destroy it. A Culture of Death can only lead to darkness and more death; I don't find anything uplifting in that view.

If you want to share your views with Ms. Goodman her e-mail address as listed in the Northwest Herald is: ellengoodman1@me.com

Abortion...scars our very souls

Five Star General and President of the United States, Dwight D. Eisenhower, in one of his memoirs, said this about the death toll in World War II; "The loss of lives that might have otherwise been creatively lived scars the mind of the civilized world." Since Roe v. Wade more that a million lives have been lost to abortions each year in this country. The same can be said about the loss of these innocent lives also; what an egregious loss of human potential and creativity that might have changed the world for the better. I believe that the moral aspects of abortion notwithstanding, that our society has the civil responsibility to curb the rate of abortion on demand to an absolute minimum. Our society, has an intrinsic right to protect the lives of the unborn if for no other reason than it has the selfish right of society to protect these unborn potentially creative lives (self preservation). Who knows what the millions of lives that have already have been aborted and the millions that will be aborted might have or will discover or create for the betterment of our society if only they were allowed to exist.

I believe that the right of self preservation of our society trumps the so-called right to privacy that is found nowhere in the Constitution of the United States of America.

Veterans Day.....do remember

John Vondra, my maternal grandfather fought in the Infantry with the American Expeditionary Force as a Private First Class during WWI in France and Germany. My father, Ted R. Gorski served in the South Pacific aboard the USS Haskel, a landing ship transport, as a radarman 1st Class during WWII. My now deceased Uncle, John Vondra, son of the above mentioned John Vondra, served as a Marine fighting the ground war in the Pacific Theater of War; he fought at Iwo Jima and several other battles against Japanese Imperial Army Forces. I served as a member of the USN as a Medical Officer (physician) during the Viet Nam War. We all made it back home safe and sound but I am sure that I can speak for my deceased Grandfather,Father and Uncle, we all will remember those who did not and those who did but with significant injuries and disabilities that would present challenges for them for the rest of their lives.

Today remember all, those who gave their lives, those who were injured, those who served in any capacity that was assigned to them; they all served as part of an American Armed Force that made this country able to continue and to assure each of us the blessing of freedom. Do not forget the men and women who serve today, risking their lives abroad and at home for the safety and security of this One Nation Under God.

Pelosi wins battle...looses war!

Democrat from California and House Majority Leader, Nancy Pelosi may have won a small and insignificant battle in the House of Representatives but I believe that the war for the health care reform bill (Obama Care?) will probably be either lost or significantly altered in the Senate so the Obama part of the bill will be at best only minimally present if at all. If the bill was so great why did 39 democratic representatives cross over and vote with the GOP? What did the President promise those democrats he lobbied to stay and vote for the bill as presented by the democrates...some nice "pork" for their districts? How much did it cost the American tax payers for those few votes needed. The bill only won by less than a handful of votes. This entire fiasco was for the benefit of Pres. Obama to show that he was not politically impotent; I wonder if it accomplished what it was supposed to do or just the opposite.

According to Senator Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., the bill is DOA (dead on arrival) in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., has not yet scheduled floor debate on the bill. This bill may not even get settled one way or the other until next year. I am sure there will be a lot of spinning by all the talking heads on TV and the radio over the next several weeks but one thing that is certain is that the passing of this bill was NO mandate from the people.

Distribution of H1N1 Vaccine

H1N1 allocation based on flu severity, other factors

By Robert McCoppin | Daily Herald Staff

Published: 11/8/2009 12:02 AM

The allocation of vaccines for the H1N1 flu virus in recent weeks may have seemed haphazard.

In suburban Cook County, many children with serious medical conditions couldn't get a shot.

Initially, DuPage and McHenry counties had only nasal sprays, which pregnant women and people with conditions like asthma can't take.

In Kane County, mass vaccination clinics were canceled after demand overwhelmed the supply.

And in Lake County, some people seeking vaccinations gave up when they saw jammed parking lots and hours-long lines. And parents who didn't qualify for the shots were given vaccines they didn't even ask for.

Yet in Chicago, officials have received nearly 330,000 doses, more than double suburban Cook, and started getting the vaccine nearly a month before the collar counties.

The allocation of vaccine created such anomalies as Kane County at one point getting more doses than DuPage County, though it has almost half the population.

Story continues below

Maureen McHugh, executive director of the DuPage County Health Department, said there have been some discrepancies, but state workers are trying their best with a limited supply.

"It's been an awkward couple of weeks," she said, "but it will even out."

Despite the inconsistencies, public health officials say they are trying to dole out the doses as fairly as possible.

Distribution is based not strictly on population, but on a number of factors, Illinois Department of Public Health spokeswoman Melaney Arnold said.

H1N1-related hospitalizations and deaths, along with population, are the primary considerations. The state no longer tracks overall cases by county because the illness is widespread.

State officials also try to keep distribution spread evenly across the state, and consider logistics such as the refrigeration storage capacity of each county.

"We're ordering as much as we can as soon as we can," Arnold said. "Right now, supply is so limited, we're all clamoring to get it. We hear some concerns, 'I live in this county but it's coming to this (other) county.' It's not a perfect system. Our objective is to get as much vaccine as we can into people."

Further complicating distribution is that federal authorities treat Chicago, New York and Los Angeles the same way they do states, sending the cities their own allotments of vaccine separate from their states, because of their large populations. Illinois, then, doled out its allotment to the rest of the state.

As the supply evens out, county health departments now are taking steps to serve a previously underserved group, those with underlying medical conditions who are at greatest risk of dying from the flu.

On Friday, DuPage County began holding the first of two immunization clinics for schoolchildren with medical conditions that endanger them, such as heart, lung, neurological, and immune-suppressing conditions.

DuPage officials sent letters to the children as identified by nurses at schools throughout the county. All 3,000 appointments were very quickly filled.

Cook County started allocating some of its supply to obstetricians and pediatricians Thursday, spokeswoman Amy Poore said, in an effort to get vaccines to some of the most at-risk patients: pregnant women and children with underlying medical conditions.

But some pediatric specialists have said they are unequipped to provide the shots because they don't normally provide vaccines, so officials are trying to find the right providers.

And Will County will hold clinics this week specifically for people with severely compromised immune systems, such as transplants recipients, chemotherapy patients, and those getting oxygen for acute lung disease.

Statewide, all 95 county health departments should have received vaccines by now, and most have held or scheduled vaccinations. Much of the initial shipments were in the form of a live virus in a nasal spray, which pregnant women and people with underlying medical conditions cannot take.

There are also signs the scarcity of vaccine may be starting to loosen up, as Chicago, suburban Cook, and all the collar counties got additional doses this past week.

After initially getting the smallest allotment per person, with a paltry 20,000 doses for 2.5 million people, suburban Cook suddenly has by far the biggest supply outside Chicago, with almost 150,000 doses. Officials hope to start supply day care centers and walk-in clinics soon.

Vaccine remained scarcest in McHenry County, with just one dose for every 100 residents - all nasal spray.

Plagued by delivery delays, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has shipped 327,000 doses to Chicago and more than 1 million doses to the rest of the state, with ultimate allocations based strictly on population. But the CDC leaves the method of allocation up to each state.

In addition, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Thursday it has started receiving 3.7 million doses for its personnel - though many are not necessarily in the highest-risk groups for serious complications from the flu. The states also reserve additional vaccines for members of military families.

Key Flu Indicators

Key Flu Indicators

Each week CDC analyzes information about influenza disease activity in the United States and publishes findings of key flu indicators in a report called FluView.* During the week of October 25-31, 2009, a review of the key indicators found that influenza activity remained high in the United States. Below is a summary of the most recent key indicators:

Visits to doctors for influenza-like illness (ILI) nationally decreased very slightly this week over last week after four consecutive weeks of sharp increases. While ILI declined slightly, visits to doctors for influenza-like illness remain at much higher levels than what is expected for this time of the year and parts of the country continue to see sharp increases in activity. It’s possible that nationwide ILI could rise again. ILI continues to be higher than what is seen during the peak of most regular flu seasons.
Total influenza hospitalization rates for laboratory-confirmed flu are climbing and are higher than expected for this time of year. Hospitalization rates continue to be highest is younger populations with the highest hospitalization rate reported in children 0-4 years old.
The proportion of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza (P&I) based on the 122 Cities Report continues to increase and has been higher for five week now than what is expected at this time of year. In addition, 18 flu-related pediatric deaths were reported this week; 15 of these deaths were confirmed 2009 H1N1, and three were influenza A viruses, but were not subtyped. Since April 2009, CDC has received reports of 129 laboratory-confirmed pediatric 2009 H1N1 deaths and another 15 pediatric deaths that were laboratory confirmed as influenza, but where the flu virus subtype was not determined.
Forty-eight states are reporting widespread influenza activity at this time; a decline of one state over last week. They are: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. This many reports of widespread activity at this time of year are unprecedented during seasonal flu.
Almost all of the influenza viruses identified so far continue to be 2009 H1N1 influenza A viruses. These viruses remain similar to the virus chosen for the 2009 H1N1 vaccine, and remain susceptible to the antiviral drugs oseltamivir and zanamivir with rare exception

House passes Healthcare Reform Bill

In the face of near-unanimous Republican opposition and a last-ditch effort to change the bill, the US House of Representatives late Saturday night voted 220 to 215 in favor of legislation to overhaul the nation's healthcare system. Thirty-nine of the body's 258 Democratic members — many from conservative districts in the South — joined their GOP House colleagues in opposing the measure, a $1.1 trillion compromise bill that has aroused deep passions on both sides of the aisle, as well as beyond the halls of Congress.

In a statement issued from Camp David shortly after the vote, President Barack Obama, who had visited House Democrats earlier in the day, said, "Tonight, in an historic vote, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would finally make real the promise of quality, affordable health care for the American people."

For her part, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said she was "proud" of House members who stood steadfast against overwhelming GOP opposition. "When we can't find common ground, we have to stand our ground," she said at a news briefing following passage of the legislation, which garnered just one Republican vote, that of Anh "Joseph" Cao (R-LA).

But House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-OH), whose GOP substitute plan went down to defeat shortly before the historic vote, vowed to continue the fight. "I came here to renew the American Dream, so my kids and their kids have the same opportunities I had. I came here to fight big-government monstrosities like this bill that dim the light of freedom and diminish opportunity for future generations. Our plan will lower premiums by up to 10%, making health care more affordable for families and small businesses. That's what the American people want, and that's what Republicans will continue to fight for."

Action now turns to the Senate, where leaders are working to merge bills from that body's Health Committee and Finance Committee. Like the House-passed bill, the Senate Health Committee's proposal includes a public-plan option, a new government insurance plan that would compete with private plans in the marketplace and be authorized to negotiate rates with physicians and hospitals. The Finance Committee proposal, in contrast, would create state-level private, nonprofit, consumer-run insurance cooperatives, which liberals in the Senate, including West Virginia Democrat Jay Rockefeller, say are fatally flawed.

But to overcome a 60-vote hurdle — the number of votes Democrats would need to cut off a GOP filibuster that some conservative Democrats have threatened to join — Senate Democrats who favor the public-plan option may have no choice but to compromise to get any sort of reform legislation through their chamber.

If that happens, and it's still a big if, the next battleground would be the conference committee, where negotiators of both chambers must forge a single piece of legislation acceptable to both sides — and, of course, to the President.

Don't loose your government and Constitution...Treaty of Copenhagen

Read and Sign Instrument of Repudiation

Important Notice for America's Future

The Treaty of Copenhagen, is being prepared for signing in mid-December 2009. It would create an unelected world government with direct power over all financial and trading markets, and direct power to intervene over the heads of elected governments in the economic and environmental affairs of all nations signing the Treaty. The new, supranational bureaucratic entity will have the power to redistribute up to 2% of wealthy nations annual gross domestic product to third-world countries in reparation for imaginary "climate debt" - just as undeniable scientific proof becomes available that CO2 has only a tiny and harmless warming effect! Please support the Instrument of Repudiation, and urge at least five of your friends to support it too. Please sign up to oppose the Treaty and preserve America's freedom, democracy, and prosperity.

Go to www.webcommentary.com to find the details on how you the average citizen can repudiate this Agreement.

$250,000 fine & Five Years in prison

What possible and terrible crime could you possibly commit to incur such a punishment as up to $250,000 (a quarter of a million dollars) in fines and up to 5 years in prison? ...rape...manslaughter...assault...what? Well if you are a census taker that could be the cost you pay in dollars or in time served or both if you reveal any of the data (for the rest of your life) you have gotten while taking the census for the Census Bureau in about 5 months from now. Supposedly the information obtained by the Census Bureau cannot be shared with anyone, and that includes other federal agencies...wonder if that includes the Department of Home Land Security?HMMM? This data will supposedly include law abiding, tax paying citizens, non-tax payers, felons, illegal immigrants from all countries, undocumented immigrants from all countries and anyone and everyone else they can find and get to cooperate in this census.

The purpose of the census is get the number of all the people living in the US regardless of their status so that the Census Bureau and the federal government can figure out how your taxes will be distributed in an equitable? and "fair" manner...Hmmmm again. According to the Brookings Institution each person in the US uses about $1400 in annual program expenditures. So in fact, we already have a program that in a sense redistributes some of the money (wealth) to theoretically everyone...the good, the bad, the beautiful, the ugly, the fat, the skinny, the legal, the illegal, the documented, the undocumented, the tax payer, the non-taxpayer....that sounds a lot like like what President Obama said in his campaign for President...to redistribute the wealth.

Just thought you folks out there would like to know this.

Rhetoric & charisma..no substitute for substance

Finally the "independent silent majority" that put Barack Obama in office last year has learned the error of its ways; rhetoric and charisma is not a substitute for substance. This was dramatically reflected in the GOP wins in Virginia and New Jersey in spite of the personal campaigning of the President for the defeated Democrat, Jon Corzine in New Jersey and Democrat, R. Creigh Deeds in Virginia. They have learned that words and promises and smiles and kissing babies are no substitute for action and listening to the wishes of their constituents. Finally the silent majority will not be silent anymore and will hold those elected to their campaign promises. Let the word go forth from this day forward, if you are campaigning for political office "say what you mean and do what you say"; the people of this great land will hold you to it and will not forget at the next election cycle...they have become much more street smart and will not fall for anymore empty political promises.

I believe the winds of change are starting to blow ever so gently but will erupt into a tornado if the people are feed the same old empty promises they have been getting for generations.

Democrat candidates for office cannot any longer hope to slip into office on the shirt tails of President Obama; in fact President Obama cannot hope to stay in office on the basis of his rhetoric and charm and flashing smile...it will not work again. He has to really accomplish things of substance that the American people expect of their President. As the President now realizes, words and promises will NOT BE ENOUGH.

Let the "Rich" pay for it!

If you believe the democratic politicians in control of the Congress of the United States the overhaul health care bill being proposed will be funded primarily by the "rich"; a 5.4% increase in the tax on individuals making more than $500,000 / year and couples making more that $1 million per year commencing in 2011. According to the Democrats this would only affect 0.3% of tax filers. So,playing the devil's advocate that would mean that they would not loose that many votes from the middle class. A smart strategy if you believe the numbers; I don't. Most of the entitlement programs that have been created have started out with low ball estimates and when all is said and done have reached costs 10 to 20 times or higher than the initial low ball figures thrown at the American people...that is a fact of life and history. How can you trust the Congress when they can't even run the government well; something they are paid very well for and with a myriad of benefits witch we the average citizens don't have and if politics continue "as usual" will never have.

Now, I believe in the theory of "Trickle Down Taxation"; a theory proposed by myself. The basic core of my theory is that when they milk all they can from the so-called "rich" they will then redefine "rich" to include the upper 1/3 of the middle class and when that has been mined for all the extra taxes needed then the middle 1/3 and so forth and so on....where does it end...bankruptcy of the country and financial collapse. We all know, deep within our inner being, there are NO FREE LUNCHES...someone somewhere always pays the bill. What happens however when you run out of the someones and somewheres?

Think about it...someday you may be defined as being super-rich for the sake of being in a tax bracket so that your finances can be mined by the IRS... only in America. God bless us and save us...He may be the only one Who can!

Truth...a rare commodity out of Washington D.C.

The first sentence in Cal Thomas's Views column really was an epiphany for me this morning as I read the Northwest Herald. The rest of the article was interesting but the first sentence contained the message; if we can't trust the veracity of of our elected representatives on both sides of the aisle; if all that matters is PARTY and PARTY AGENDA and getting RE-ELECTED then we the constituents of both parties are truly not being represented. What we have in Washington, in Congress, is an oligarchy (the rule of an elite few to control the many). What I see developing is a true insurgency of the ruled to consider options offered by developing third and fourth parties. I believe that the evils of a two party system that our Founding Fathers warned us about over 230 years ago are truly becoming, if not already existing, in our government today. Only time and the American Peoples' vote will tell the future of the party system. These may be revolutionary times in the way the American Voter thinks and votes. God bless the United States of America.
