GEORGE WASHINGTON STATED

Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty teeth.

First Inaugural Address of George Washington...April 30, 1789

The preservation of the sacred fire of liberty and the destiny of the republican model of government are justly considered as deeply, perhaps as finally, staked on the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.

The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Abraham Lincoln said:

"In this age, and in this country, public sentiment is everything. With it, nothing can fail; against it nothing can suceed. Whoever molds public sentiment goes deeper than he who enacts statutes, or pronounces judicial decisions."

James Madison Declared

The adversaries of the Constitution seem to have lost sight of the PEOPLE altogether in their reasonings on this subject; and to have viewed these different establishments not only as mutual rivals and enemies, but as uncontrolled by any common superior in their efforts to usurp the authorities of each other. These gentlemen must be reminded of their error. They must be told that the ULTIMATE AUTHORITY, wherever the derivative may be found, RESIDES IN THE PEOPLE ALONE. Liar liar pants on fire!

Now let me understand this: French President Nicolas Sarkozy was over hood saying "I can't stand him. He's a liar."...about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Obama stated "You're tired of him; what about me? I have to deal with him every day." Now those two pots (politicians) are calling the kettle black (Netanyahu)... what a joke...LOL. All politicians lie when they have too or even when they don't; it is a pre-requisite for office in today's world...isn't it? These are world leaders....LOL again. We all have to do better come election time.

The road to dictatorship?

Recently President Obama directed his staff at the White House to look and see if they could circumvent the Congress in order to get what he wants in his agenda accomplished and placed into law. It sounds like he wants to dictate his policy agenda into law without the input of the Congress and the people who gave him his power and the Congress it's powers. Does it not sound like a violation of his oath of office to defend the Constitution of the United States of America? Wonder what the Supreme Court of the United States of America might have to say about this circumventional action?

A picture is worth a thousand words

Pick up Sunday, July 24th 2011 Chicago Tribune and go to page 25 in the NATION & WORLD section. There you will find a photograph of two men with sad and I believe perplexed looks on their faces...expressions that are beyond words to explain the fatigue and emotional distress expressed on their faces and body postures.

Read the article by Peter Nicholas and Lisa Mascaro if you want; but I don't think it can add much more than the expressions on both mens' faces. On the left, House Speaker John Boehner and on the right President Obama.

I looked at this photograph and saw two different views of the United States' projected trajectory; one directed toward bigger government, more taxes and a larger deficit and one toward smaller government, less taxes and a smaller deficit. The perplexing part is that each man thinks he is correct in his views and that his views are what the American people want.

I say a prayer every night for the politicians, given the power by "the people" to make the prudent and correct decisions that will be the best ones for all the people of the United States of America.

Pres. Obama...abusing War Powers Resolution?

According to U.S. Code, Title 50, Chapter 33, S 1541:

Purpose and policy

(a) Congressional declaration
It is the purpose of this chapter to fulfill the intent of the framers of the Constitution of the United States and insure that the collective judgement of both the Congress and the President will apply to the introduction of United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, and to the continued use of such forces in such situations.

(b) Congressional legislative power under necessary and proper clause
Under article I, section 8, of the Constitution, it is specifically provided that the Congress shall have the power to make all laws necessary and proper for carrying into execution, not only its own powers but also all other powers vested by the Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any department or officer hereof.

(c) Presidential executive power as Commander-in-Chief; limitation
The constitutional powers of the President as Commander-in-Chief to introduce United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, are exercised only pursuant to

  1. a declaration of war,
  2. specific statutory authorization, or
  3. a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.
According to Senator Richard Lugar who was the former chairman of and is currently the ranking Republican on the Foreign Relations Committee in a letter to Pres. Obama dated May 23; he contends that Obama's commitments to consult with Congress and act "consistent with" the War Powers Resolution  "have not been fulfilled." Since that letter the President has been stonewalling the Congress. Since the President is not fulfilling the requirements of the WPR the Congress should take further legal action in forcing him to meet his constitutional obligations or suffer the consequences thereof.

Netanyahu outshines Obama

Class, wisdom, experience and a knowledge of history really showed when comparing the actions and words of Pres. Obama and Prime Minister Netanyahu. Mr. Netanyahu, with a world of experience under his belt, shined like the leader and statesman he is during the time he was in the United States. He represented his sovereign nation, Israel, in a manner that made me, a gentile and non-citizen of Israel proud of what and how he said it. I wish I could say the same thing of what Pres. Obama said and did...I was embarrassed by the words and actions of Pres. Obama...who acted in a manner that no other U.S. President has acted. Pres. Harry S. Truman; the President that first recognized Israel as a sovereign nation in 1948 and everyone since Pres. Truman never through Israel "under the bus". I apologise Mr. Netanyahu for the manner in which you were treated.

112th Congress....THE TIPPING POINT?

Yesterday, Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 the 112th Congress of the United States of America was convened. In November of last year the "real power" of the United States "We The People" spoke in terms that politicians of all parties understand; they voted. I believe they told all on the Hill to start to behave as statesmen concerned with the welfare of this country and the individual and not be blinded by party partisanship. The American people want the Congress to follow the principles as set forth in the U.S. Constitution and at this point in history to be concerned about the economy, the deficit and jobs. Don't try to solve the world's problems...start with ours...they are a big enough challenge. I hope that all in the Congress got this message and also all in the Obama Administration including President Obama.

Do not listen to there words and promises...see and keep tract of what they DO. Constantly remind them that they are there to serve the United States and the electorate that put them there.

Pres. Obama due overdue credit?

According to Eugene Robinson, as noted in his Washington Post column "Views", President Obama deserves "some overdue credit". I say baloney to Mr. Robinson's "Views". We are worse off than on the day that the President was sworn into office.

Mr. Robinson says that the Expectations of the new president were absurdly high. I agree with the absurdly but who promoted and pushed those Expectations?.....the national media and then candidate Obama's own campaign staff. There was all sort of rhetorical flourish and promises for CHANGE and HOPE and transparency in his new administration. I have not seen much of that as reflected in Pres. Obama's approval ratings; in fact they seem to be nosediving even further.

Mr. Robinson goes on to further state that Pres. Obama should be given credit in at least four areas:
  1. The pull out of the last U.S. Combat Troops in Iraq
  2. The bail out of General Motors to the tune of $50 billion dollars
  3. The containment of the Gulf oil spill.
  4. The President's statement at the Ramadan dinner in regards to the mosque controversy.
In regards to #1: the prudence and wisdom of this action will not be determined in the short run but history and historians will determine if this was a wise action or a political one.

In regards to #2: the creation of "Government Motors" with the government owning 61% of the company; was this truly a move to save the company that did not deserve to be saved because of a poor business plan or was it a gift to the United Auto Workers Union for all that labor did to get the President elected.

In regards to #3: the circus that followed the oil spill and the deaths of eleven oil rig workers, if it was not such a sad and massive catastrophe, could be viewed at best as the government bureaucracy working at its best to get in the way of actions by BP, the State and private citizens to clean up the mess. To date the scientific authorities believe that at least 80% of the oil is still in the Gulf...so much for containment.

In regards to #4: It is of interest that the President stated his or I should say the U.S. Constitution's stance on the "mosque at ground zero" issue before a group of Muslims to supposedly gain the "high ground" on this issue but would not discuss his personal opinion, to the rank and file American community, regarding the appropriateness and wisdom of an element of the Muslim community which is pushing the building of this Muslim mosque and center.

These are the reasons that I disagree with Mr. Robinson. President Obama is not due any overdue credit at this time. Let time and history be the judge of his Presidency and decisions.

A NEW QUARTET...has been formed?

In the very recent past you could always count on the so called political entity of the European Union, the United Nations and Russia as being the "Triumvirate" that was uniformly anti-Israel. Now to the surprise of most American citizens the United States in the form of it's President, Barack Obama has joined that group to form a new "Quartet" that is anti-Israel. President Barack Obama has gone out of his way to make his feelings known to the people of Israel. Shortly after moving into the Oval Office, President Obama returned a bust of Winston Churchill to the British Embassy in the District of Colombia. You have to understand historically Winston Churchill considered himself as one of the "authors" of Britain's embrace of Zionism via the Balfour Declaration of 1917. This Declaration basically stated that the British Goverment favored the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine. Now you can understand why Churchill had to be removed from Pres. Obama's office; a difference of idealogies?

Moving forward in time to 2009 in Cairo, in a speech, President Obama then stated that, in part, Israel existed because of the Jewish suffering in the Holocoust and that Palestinian people including Muslims and Christians have suffered in trying to establish a homeland also. The equivalency of these two diverging statements I believe does not exist at the same level. This White House thinks differently about the State of Israel; considerably different than all previous administrations.

Israel with its deep history of nationhood extending back to the time of King David, 3000 years ago and even before that another 1000 to 1500 years is beyond unintelligible to the current Obama Adminstration. American liberals and progressives will never be able to understand or put themselves in the shoes of the people and the State of Israel. I believe this is a point in time, a tipping point, in our relationship with Israel.

Pres. Obama said we are not a Judeo-Christian Nation? - an open letter

Dear Pres. Obama:

Perhaps it was not on your required reading list at law school but I invite you to stroll over to the Library of Congress, if you were able to get a library card in light of the sparsity of your identification documents, and pick up a copy of The Christian Life and Character of the Civil Institutions of the United States, by Benjamin F. Morris, and published by American Vision Press, Powder Springs, Georgia. This 1060 page tome, which took over 12 years to research and write, gives original sources of proof that establishes the Christian Life and Character of the Civil Institutions of the United States dating back to the first settlements in the 1600s. Indirectly since much of the reasoning used in establishing these early civil institutions and codes and behavior were taken from the Christian bible which I am sure you must know includes the Old Testament, Judaic elements were also included in the earliest civil life and settlements of this country.

It is true that we are a nation of many religions but our Founders and the leaders who formulated civil life and institutions in the 1600s used Judeo-Christian values in doing so. Do yourself a favor and read it; I believe it will broaden your vision of the United States and give you and more realistic perspective of who we are.

Respectfully yours,
Richard W. Gorski, M.D.

Hope floats....where is the CHANGE?

Shortly after President Elect Barack Obama became President Obama he came to Fort Myers Florida. He promised a gathering of about 1500 people at Harborside Event Center the following: "If we want to fully turn this crisis around the starting point is to get people back to work right now."

Well it hasn't happened, now almost a year later, Fort Myers still has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the nation.....NO CHANGE. The unemployment rate has changed for the worse by increasing 2 percentage points to 13.8%...NO CHANGE EXCEPT NEGATIVE.

The $787 billion economic recovery plan NEVER CHANGED Fort Myers in a positive manner. So much for fulfilling CHANGE promises in a positive manner to the people of Fort Myers. The local failure reflects a expanding national dissatisfaction. His approval rating has dropped to 48% according to Gallup.

President Obama had better listen to the people or there will be a change at the helm of this country following the elections in 2012. He should start listening instead of blaming Pres. Bush and lecturing to the people, his boss, or he will be back in the classroom teaching law.

The Revolution has begun!

It takes a while to anger and disappoint and disgust the segment of the United States that is composed of conservative democrats, independent voters and republican voters but it appears that the Democratic Party and President Obama's CHANGE has done it big time and in about exactly one year from his inauguration into office. Yes, I believe a Revolution is about to take place, a Revolution in the voting booths all around this country and all those politicians that have rode on the backs of political machines had better take note; they are going to be judged not on what the machine tells them to do but on what their constituency tells them. The American voter is finally getting smart and is not just listening to what politicians SAY but what they DO after they get into office. They will be judged on their performance; no free rides anymore.

The victory of Republican Scott Brown over Martha Coakley in Mass. marks the third statewide loss in a row for the President's Democratic Party. It also gives the Republicans the 41st vote they need to block controversial legislation in the Senate. The Democrats would need a super majority to pass legislation...this is very, very unlikely to happen.

So congratulations America on starting to take back your government, your rights and your elected Representatives and Senators and keep a very close eye not only on what they SAY but what they DO.

A paradigm shift is in the wind and the velocity is increasing.

WAR is about KILLING

The movie Letters from Iwo Jima is a very good movie but it could never have been made during the days of the Second World War; the timing would have been all wrong. During the war we did not want to think of Japanese soldiers as being human beings with wives and families and the things that are shared by all sentient beings. During war the prime objective is to kill the enemy as fast and in great enough numbers to entirely wipe him out...so that there is not a chance of him coming back some day and re- initiating retaliation. Ancient civilizations knew this simple fact. Today we seem to forget what they knew; they knew that you don't want to understand your enemy you simply want to dehumanize him and kill him before he can kill you.

I understand and respect the position of Professor Marc Falkoff of Northern Illinois University but I disagree with his timing and maybe his motivation because I cannot read his mind. During a time of war we cannot afford the luxury of trying to understand and show the enemy compassion; our job is to win and to win the enemy has to be dehumanized and made into a beast that needs to be killed and destroyed. It is difficult to kill a fellow human being if you attribute to him feelings of love of family, wife, children and all the good attributes we attach to humanity. Therefore both sides, in war, dehumanize the enemy so that killing can be made easier and less traumatic to the individual doing the killing; it is not a natural act that comes naturally to most of us but has to be taught and drilled into us...thank God.

I believe that the time for understanding, showing compassion for reading his reflections and poetry is after we have won the War on Terrorism. To do so when we are engaged in it would only weaken our resolve and focus on VICTORY, a word that I did not hear once during President Obama's speech at West Point.
