When I renewed my Illinois drivers' license I also signed onto the States new First-Person Consent Organ/Tissue Donor Registry. Even in death you can give life to another individual; I can't think of a more precious gift.
Almost 5,000 people are waiting for organ transplants to give them a second chance at life. Sadly many will die because of the lack of donors.
If you want to give the greatest gift you will ever give to another human being call toll free:

IT WILL BE THE GREATEST GIFT YOU WILL EVER GIVE

The "new" organ donor registry needs to be emphasized. If you were previously an organ donor, you must sign up again under the "new" registry. Pretty stupid requirement, if you ask me, and it may cause some donations to be missed.
If you have any doubt about the validity of your existing organ donation status, visit the Illinois Secretary of State website at www.cyberdriveillinois.com and click on the link at the lower right. Or you can go straight to www.LifeGoesOn.com
Absolutely, good addition Gus and great post Richard. The state created the new registry on Jan. 1, 2006 to ensure that an individual's wishes to be a donor are honored. The state could not automatically transfer over the names of the old registry since the new registry is a legally-binding decision. The new registry will also help save hundreds of more lives each year.
If you haven't re-registered since Jan. 1, 2006 you can do so at the at the DMV, by calling the number above or quickly hopping over to the website.
I'd also encourage you to check out www.DonateLifeIllinois.org (where you can also register as an Illinois resident) as you'll see we are working on a campaign to register 5 million Illinois residents in the new registry by the end of April 2009.
The national transplant list will top 100K this year. Please consider registering (or re-registering if you haven't joined the new one)!.
