In 2006 the FBI documented that in 2006 this country's total violent crime rate was 37.5 % lower than is 1991 when violent crime peaked. The two most violet forms of violent crime involving a firearm were murder and robery.
Long term trends according to the FBI reveal that violet crime remains relatively low in States where the number of guns, gun owners and Right - To - Carry Laws have risen and gun control has been reduced significantly. The FBI essentially said that crime levels have little or nothing to do with increased gun control. In 2006 the States with Right-To-Carry had lower violent crime rates, on average, compared to the rest of the country.
What is needed is criminal control, not gun control according to the facts. If a criminal knows his or her chance of being killed or wounded in committing a violent crime they will think a few times before doing the dirty deed...it might be their last. Now that is using a gun to control crime.

Illinois and Wisconsin are the two states that prohibit law-abiding citizens from defending themselves away from home. Wisconsin almost approved concealed carry; Governor Doyle twisted some arms and the vote to override his veto failed by two votes.
Illinois? Ha-ha-ha. When I moved here in 1996, I phoned Woodstock PD to ask how to get an application for a concealed carry permit. At least, the WPD officer was polite and directed me to call the County.
When I called the McHenry County Sheriff's Department, the deputy laughed at me and told me I'd never get a permit in Illinois. Well, we'll see...
The Illinois State Rifle Association (www.isra.org) and IllinoisCarry.com are working hard to get concealed-carry passed. There is a gun-owner's group in Richmond that is well-organized and effective.
Law-abiding citizens should support these efforts, even if you don't intend to carry. YOU will be safer, when the criminal doesn't know if his potential victim might be armed.
